#boxosox2017
I thought I´d show you all of my socks for 2017´s box of socks knitalong, hosted by Kristin Lehrer of the Yarngasm podcast. In the beginning of the year, it felt like a piece of cake to knit 12 pairs of socks. How hard can it be?! Well, it turned out to be an exciting race against the clock at as the year went in on its last days. Mainly because I knit some other things too during the year… I´ll return to those later.
Sock #1: West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply in the colourway 811 Passion Fruit Cooler.
Sock #2: Austermann Step with Aloe Vera (very soft!)
Sock #3: West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4-ply in the colourway Pheasant.
Sock #4: Limmodesign handdyed sock yarn with glitter in the colourway Ninja Girl. This was the first sample of my very first own design, the Sea Breeze Socks!
Sock #5: Regia Design Line Arne & Carlos in the colourway Summer Night. Cuffs, heels and toes in Järbo Miniraggi. These turned out too small for me, so I´m going to give them to my mum, who also received the first pair of socks knitted in this yarn, but with white contrast. Those were also too small... I have to knit yet another pair for me.
Sock #6: Yarn from Garnlycka.se in the colourway Björk (Birch). Pattern was my own, but I haven´t written it up since it did turn out a bit messy in this yarn, and I have to try it out in another colour.
Sock #7: This was a mystery knitalong hosted by Garnityr.se and designer Linda Brodin. We were delivered one piece of the pattern at a time during a week in August. It was called the Late Summer Sock knitalong and it was much fun. Yarn is Järbo Junior Raggi, a new to me yarn, very nice.
Sock #8: Sea Breeze Socks. Limmodesign handdyed sock yarn in the colourway Petrol. This was my first pattern release! It is a free pattern on Ravelry and as of today, it has been downloaded over 400 times.
Sock #9: Pollen Socks. Yarn is Stäkets Hantverk & Design, hand dyed in a merino/bamboo blend. This is a new pattern which hasn´t been released yet.
Sock #10: Hermione´s Everyday Socks. Yarn is from Moods of Colors, her SoftSock in the colourway Spektakel. Lovely!
Sock #11: Abisko Socks by Linda Dubec, in the book Woods from A Making Story. Lovely book! Yarn is Drops Fabel.
Sock #12; The grand finale, my Christmas socks! Pattern is Longing for Gotland by Pia Kammeborn. Yarn is Järbo Miniraggi. I knit them a bit longer than the pattern called for, and I have been wearing them a lot this Christmas.
My finished box! I chose a big one, to fit all of my other socks too, so I had to fill it up a little with yarn for next year :-)
To sum up: I have learned a lot during the year, I have knit some different kinds of heels, tried both toe-up and cuff-down, a couple of different bind offs and cast-ons. I have even released my first sock pattern. The next one, the Pollen Socks, is already written up and is being test knitted.
I will see if I join in during 2018´s box of socks knitalong, there is already a thread open in Kristen´s Ravelry Group. But at the same time I really want to knit some more garments during the year, and also explore further my capabilites as a designer. Time will tell!
